Tweak Your To-Do List to Really Get Things Done

January 29, 2014

personal accountability, self management, time managementDeciding in advance when and where you will complete a task can double or triple your chances of actually doing it. Add a specific when and where to each task on your list. If you use a personal management tool such as Outlook, assign a 30 minute period to take care of several tasks together. For example, “Complete Tasks” could be the subject and the detail would have the specific tasks to complete such as “Call Bob to get decision on ZYX.” By assigning a specific time for calling Bob and doing other tasks that are important to you, you can seize the critical moment and execute, even when your day is crazy busy with other things. You’ve already done the hard work of deciding what to do and when to do it — now you can execute the plan without consciously thinking about it.
